The Coordinator of Amachi Development Centre in Abakaliki Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, Hon. Mrs Victoria Ifeoma Mbam, has commissioned an ultra-modern health centre at Nwanwu and distributed nine brand-new motorcycles as part of efforts to improve healthcare delivery and empower residents of the area.
Eight of the motorcycles were presented to members of the Management Committee, while one was given to Eze Igbo Simon, an APC member who reportedly lost his motorcycle during a ward-to-ward local government campaign rally at Uburu-Amachi.
Speaking at the commissioning and empowerment ceremony, Mbam said the initiatives were in line with the People’s Charter of Needs Agenda of Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, which she said was aimed at improving the living conditions of residents at the grassroots.
She said the projects were part of her administration’s efforts to bring the benefits of government closer to the people of Amachi Development Centre.
According to her, other projects executed by her administration included the construction of two bridges, drilling of six hand-pump boreholes, grading and laterite work on roads across various villages, payment of bursary awards to undergraduates from Amachi Community and the empowerment of members of the Management Committee with N500,000 each.
Mbam also pledged to sustain the implementation of the Governor’s People’s Charter of Needs at the grassroots, saying the administration would continue to prioritise projects that directly impact the people.
She expressed appreciation to the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Hon. Stephen Uchenna Igwe, for attending the commissioning despite his official engagements, and commended the Executive Chairman of Abakaliki Local Government Area, Chief Stephen Ebere Nwogba, for his support.
The Coordinator also declared that the people of Amachi Development Centre would support Governor Nwifuru’s re-election bid and other candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
Commissioning the projects, Commissioner Igwe commended Mbam for what he described as her commitment to grassroots development and empowerment.
Igwe particularly praised the construction and equipping of the health centre, as well as the provision of motorcycles for the beneficiaries, urging them to use the items responsibly and productively.
He said the empowerment would provide the beneficiaries with an opportunity to improve their economic well-being and become more useful to their communities.
The Commissioner also called on the people of Amachi to support the re-election of Governor Nwifuru and other APC candidates in the 2027 elections, arguing that continued support for the administration would enable the area to benefit from more government projects.
According to Igwe, “With the massive infrastructure and human capital development put in place by the present administration in the state, it is morally justifiable to express gratitude to the Governor through the ballot.”
Also speaking, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Education, Hon. Peter Nwogbaga, and a member of the Ebonyi State Broadcasting Corporation (EBBC) Board, Mr Sony B. Akpaegu, commended Mbam for the projects and urged her to sustain the delivery of development initiatives to the grassroots.
They assured her of their continued support for programmes aimed at improving the welfare of the people.
The husband of the Coordinator, Engr. Fidelis Mbam Okata, expressed appreciation to Governor Nwifuru for appointing his wife as Coordinator of Amachi Development Centre.
He said the appointment had provided her with an opportunity to contribute to the development of the community, assuring that she would continue to support the implementation of the Governor’s People’s Charter of Needs.
Some beneficiaries, including Hon. Sunday Ezekiel Ogbaga, Engr. Ominyi Amarachi and Eze Igbo Simon, expressed gratitude to Governor Nwifuru and the Coordinator for the empowerment initiative.
They pledged to put the motorcycles to productive use and support programmes designed to improve the welfare of the people.
The event was attended by the Executive Chairman of Abakaliki Local Government Area, Chief Stephen Ebere Nwogba, businessman Chief Sunday Nwambam and other political, traditional and community stakeholders.
