The Rivers APC 2023 Campaign Council has suspended the protest march against Executive Orders 21 and 22 issued by the Governor of Rivers State.
Sogbeye Eli, the Spokesman of the party who made this known in a press release said, the protest scheduled to hold in conjunction with other political parties and civil society organizations tomorrow, November 24, 2022, the Campaign Council had under the above-written to the Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Command to request for security protection of the protesting parties.
According to Eli, the Police declined the APC's request in written communication and advised that the party has proceeded against the Executive Orders in Court instead.
"Contrary to the interpretation of being given the position of the Police by political mischief makers and opponents of our great party, the right to protest by citizens is a constitutional right and no Nigerian is under obligation to apply for approval of same from the Police or any other authority.
"Committed to challenging the unconstitutional actions and tyranny of the Rivers State Government, including the obnoxious Executive Orders by legal means, legal action has commenced at the Federal High Court in Suit No. FHC/PH/CS/239/2022 (All Progressives Congress v. Independent National Electoral Commission & Ors). The other defending parties in the Suit are the Police, the Governor of Rivers State, the Attorney-General of Rivers State, the Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Command and the Chairman of Eleme Local Government Council.
"Consequently, tomorrow's march has been postponed to allow the Judiciary to determine the issues," Eli also hinted.
