The first driver to pass through the temporarily opened Niger Bridge, was Sunday Emem on Thursday to motorists.
Our correspondent reports that the Federal Government of Nigeria on Thursday temporarily opened the Second Niger Bridge to motorists, for use in one month during the Yuletide.
The bridge was opened at exactly 9:50 am Thursday 15th December 2022 by President Muhammad's led administration.
The first driver to pass through the bridge, Sunday Emem, expressed his delight at the development, while commending President Buhari-led government.
“I feel so happy, at least it will reduce the hold-up.
“We’ve stayed over one hour at the other bridge,” he said.
President Muhammad Buhari noted that part of the money used in constructing the bridge was from looted funds recovered mostly from the United States of America (USA).
President Buhari, who was represented at the opening of the popular bridge by the Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola (SAN), also said the reason the overpass was constructed was to alleviate poverty occasioned by the waste of man-hours resulting from gridlock on the old first second bridge.
“The President will be happy to see users drive safely and responsibly while using this road, especially during this Christmas and New Year seasons.
“He wishes you a merry Christmas and Happy New Year,” he said.
