The member representing Afikpo North/South Constituency, Ebonyi State in the House of Representatives, Hon. Iduma Igariwey, yesterday commended the elders of Afikpo (Esaa Ehugbo) for their forthrightness in outlawing political violence in the zone.
Igariwey gave the commendation when he was honoured with a chieftaincy title of Omeri-Oha 1 by the people of Owutu Edda.
The elders of Afikpo, in their meeting, had made it an offence for any politician in the zone to destroy opponents' posters and disrupt campaign rallies.
Igariwey said that the intervention of the elders will stem the tide of political violence and engender tolerance among politicians in the zone.
He said that only politicians who lack credibility with the people resort to violence and intimidation of their opponents.
"What we need is a level-playing ground to engage with the people constructively to enable them make the right decision at the polls", he said.
Igariwe thanked the people of Owutu Edda for the honours conferred on him and his wife. He said that it will motivate him to continue to deliver more people projects to the constituency.
