Deacon Chijiuka Ogbonnaya is presently the Principal Inspector of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Ebonyi State Nigeria and has emerged as the Best NYSC Staff in the State.
Born on 15th March 1980, to the family of Mr Ogbonnaya Okorafor and Mrs Grace Ogbonnaya at Amankwo Onicha, in Onicha LGA, Ebonyi State, Deacon Chijiuka Ogbonnaya attended the Agueke Community Primary School, Agueke Isu, Onicha LGA where he obtained his First School Leaving Certificate, and emerged the Best Graduating Pupil in 1989.
He went to the Onicha Model Secondary Technical School, Onicha, where he maintained first position in his class from JSS One to SSS Three, obtained his WAEC SSCE in flying colours, emerged the Best graduating student, and set a new record for WAEC SSCE result for schools in Onicha LGA in 1995.
He proceeded to the Akanu Ibiam Federal Polytechnic Unwana, where he obtained a National diploma in Computer Science and came out as the Best Graduating Student in December 1997.
Deacon Chijiuka Ogbonnaya, then went to the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, where he obtained a B.Sc. (Hons) in Geology in 2004, and an M.Sc. Degree in Geology (Sedimentology & Stratigraphy) in 2013.
He obtained an Oracle 10g Database Administration Professional Certificate from Oracle University, California USA, in 2007, as well as an MBA (online) from the Tekedia Institute, Boston, USA, in 2022.
Chijiuka Ogbonnaya was mobilized to Bayelsa State for his one-year National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), 'and won the Bayelsa State Merit Award as the overall Best Corps Member (2005 Batch B) in 2006. As a result of the Merit award, the Bayelsa State Government offered him automatic employment in the Bayelsa State Civil Service in October 2006.
In 2014, Chijiuka resigned from his appointment with the Bayelsa State Government to join the National Youth Service Corps as an Inspector 1, having joined the scheme with a higher degree.
He is currently a Principal Inspector. In June 2021, the State Coordinator Ebonyi State appointed him as the Local Government Inspector (LGI)for Izzi LGA.
In 2017, he was appointed the Schedule Officer for Dance and Drama CDS, and led the Dance and Drama CDS Contingents to win the Zonal Competition of NYSC DG Cultural Festival in Abia State in 2018, and won the best costume at the National Competition in 2018.
During the 25th February 2023 Presidential and National Assembly Elections in Izzi LGA, Chijiuka put his life on the line to successfully rescue two corps members who were trapped inside the bush in the night, as a result of a gun attack at their collation centre. He survived a gun attack and his car was destroyed in the rescue effort.
Before he was appointed the LGI of Izzi, the NYSC in Izzi did not have an office accommodation and the Corps members serving in the Local Government Council were not being paid any stipend.
However, since his appointment as the LGI, NYSC in Izzi now has an office complex which accommodates Corps members posted to the Places of Primary Areas around the Local Government Council, Iboko as Corps lodge, as well as the LGI office and residence.
The Corps members posted to the Local Government Council, Iboko, are now enjoying monthly allowances up to N8,000. 00 per month.
Chijiuka Ogbonnaya is happily married to his beautiful and lovely wife and the marriage is tremendously blessed.
In a brief remark made after receiving the excellent award on Thursday during the NYSC Golden Jubilee Award Night, at Bishop Thomas MacGettrick Pastoral Centre Abakaliki, Deacon Chijiuka Ogbonnaya expressed the joy of the special recognition and assured of more commitment towards taking the scheme to a greater height while in active service.
