The Nigeria Bar Association, NBA Abakaliki Branch, Ebonyi State has demonstrated its readiness to implement its wealth creation initiatives and policies for lawyers via case charges.
The Secretary of the Implementation Committee, NBA Abakaliki Branch, Barrister Luke Chibueze Adonwe made this known in an interview with journalists, Thursday in Abakaliki, the State capital.
Barrister Adonwe who expressed joy over his emergence as the Secretary of the Committee last Friday, June 2023, thanked his members for finding him worthy to serve them, especially their Chairman, Sir Chigozie Nwankwo for trusting him with the onerous task.
The Secretary, however, assured that he would take the task of restoring the nobility of the Bar personnel by dealing decisively against any person who goes contrary to the directives without fear or favour.
According to him, NBA members believe in justice, 10 per cent, and wealth creation of lawyers in a legal way via charging not less than 200,000 naira on any case no matter how flimsy it may be.
His words: "I want to inform all my brothers in this forum that I took this task of restoring the nobility of the Bar personnel and would deal decisively against any person who goes contrary to the directives, no matter how highly placed or your relationship with me.
"Sincerely, what we may believe in, is justice, 10%, and wealth creation of lawyers in a legal way via charging not less than 200,000 naira on any matter no matter how flimsy the case may be."
The legal practitioner and human rights activist assured of unveiling more beneficial plans for the association before the weekend.
Adonwe noted that his new position might attract many rivals to him especially the land speculators, agents and even his colleagues.
He, however, warned them against falling victim to collecting less than 10 per cent in preparation of land document(s) or collecting less than 200, 000 naira on any matter even if it is stealing of chewing gum case.
He said: I assure you that before Friday this week, so many things will be on the ground to guide and guard you.
"From this, I am aware that I am now an endangered specie via the pointing of accusing fingers at me by land speculators, agents and even lawyers but I want to assure you that our committee must restore the nobility of the Bar no matter what it will cause us.
"My advice is that you don't fall victim to collecting less than 10% in preparation of land documents or collecting less than 200,000.00 naira on any matter even if it's stealing chewing gum. It is very risky."
