Ebonyi state government led by Governor Francis Nwifuru has urged the members of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) to be more committed to ensuring its administrative agenda secures a favourable fulfilment.
The State Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Matters and Rural Development, Hon Stephen Uchenna Igwe made the call when he received the NULGE leaders who paid him a familiarisation visit in his office, Abakaliki.
Igwe emphasized the need by the leaders and members of the union to redouble their commitment to work to fulfil Governor Nwifuru's agenda, tagged Ebonyi people's charter of needs.
According to him, NULGE leaders as major players in service delivery at the local government level should see it as a challenge to sensitize their members to be more productive and stated that his office would not give room for ineffectiveness.
The Commissioner vowed to work with the union to return the lost glory of civil service at the LGA levels.
"I want you all and your members to sit up to your responsibility, and to join hands with the State Government and the Ministry to achieve the targets of our dear Governor, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Francis Nwifuru.
"On your request for appointment of one of you as SA to the Governor on Labour Matters, I will take your request to the Governor for his consideration. As a Ministry, I want to assure you of a better working relationship. But you must ensure that you do the right thing, always be punctual and regular to work, and above all, help the government to fish out ghost workers in the system" Igwe said.
Earlier, the State NULGE Chairman, Comrade Stanley Ewa hailed the Commissioner on his appointment to Governor Nwifuru and explained that they decided to familiarize themselves with his office to assure him of their determination towards moving Ebonyi forward in the new administration.
He enumerated some challenges confronting the union and however expressed assurance that the Commissioner would assist to quell them.
