Ebonyi State Governor's Wife, Chief Mrs Mary Maudline Uzoamaka Ogbonna Nwifuru has expressed concern over a widow who was reportedly battered by the alleged three young boys in Ohaukwu LGA of the State.
The Ebonyi First Lady has, however, restated her commitment to ensuring that she gets justice for Ebonyi women.
She stated this in her office yesterday when she received a report of an incident in Ohaukwu LGA, concerning the battered widow by three young boys whose names were yet to be made available to the Nigerian Pilot.
Mrs Nwifuru on receiving the report, directed the state Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs Felicia Nwamkpuma to visit the local government, where the incident occurred for its confirmation and ensure it was properly handled.
Nigerian Pilot learnt that the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs Felicia Nwakpuma in the company of the Ohaukwu LGA Chairman, Prince Ikechukwu Odono, visited the area. The duo confirmed that the widow has been hospitalized and the suspected three boys had been arrested as directed by the Ohaukwu LGA chairman, but the investigation was ongoing at the time of filing this report.
It was also gathered that the widow was beaten because her goat ate the cassava stem of the three men.
The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development appreciated the Ohaukwu LGA chairman for his effort on the current situation and explained that the wife of the Governor, Chief Mrs Nwifuru remains determined to follow the matter to ensure justice as her office would not tolerate any form of abuse on Ebonyi women.
The Hon Commissioner also stated that Chief Mrs Nwifuru has directed that her office has started a sensitization programme and created awareness to stop injustice against women in the state and appealed that Ebonyians should always report any form of violence to the appropriate quarters.
The First Lady, according to the Commissioner, also sent some items to the widow who was amazed and appreciated the mother of the state for alleviating her plight and coming to her aid.
