A women's group on the aegis of Ebonyi State Women Inclusion Movement, EB-WIM, has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the state governor, Francis Nwifuru to include more women in governance.
The President, Ngozi Obichukwu made this known while speaking to newsmen, shortly after a courtesy visit to the deputy governor of Ebonyi State, Patricia Obila, that took place at the old Government House Abakaliki capital of Ebonyi State.
She stated that the inclusion of more women in governance will help in the fight against Gender-Based Violence, GBV, and other obnoxious practices against the female gender in the country, and in particular, Ebonyi state.
Obichukwu who is the state commissioner for Aviation and Transport Technology, commended the wife of the governor, Uzomaka Mary-Maudlin Nwifuru and the deputy governor, Obila for their dogged fight against, GBV, human trafficking, rape, and other related inhuman treatment meted on girl child and women in the state.
The group, however, applauded the state governor, Francis Nwifuru for having a woman as his deputy governor, and also appointed a woman as his Secretary to the State Government, SSG, allowing a woman to be chairman of local government areas among other positions in the state.
The President, Obichukwu however, urged the federal government and other state governments, to emulate Governor Nwifuru and ensure that there is adequate inclusion of more women in their cabinets.
She applauded the governor's wife for the role played during this year's August meetings, with the theme: 'Mother, where is your Child?' that took place in the 13 local government areas of the state.
According to her, All over the world and throughout humanity, the success and failure of the society has always been attributed to the family, which in turn holds mothers responsible for either of the two.
The commissioner, Obichukwu further urged women in the state, not to abandon their role as home builders, to house helps, especially while on duty or pursuing their careers.
She, however, vowed to mobilize thousands of women in the state to support the program and policies of the government, led by Governor Francis Nwifuru.
