The Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Ebonyi State Chapter, Comr. Douglas Ochishi, has appealed to the government, philanthropists, corporate organisations and other well-meaning Nigerians to support a young family blessed with triplets.
Ochishi made the appeal during an unscheduled visit to Mr. Nwebonyi Israel Timothy, a member of the NYCN, whose wife recently gave birth to three children.
The NYCN chairman expressed gratitude to God for the safe delivery of the triplets and their mother, describing the development as a remarkable blessing to the family and a cause for celebration.
He, however, noted that the birth of triplets also comes with enormous financial and social responsibilities, particularly in the areas of feeding, healthcare, education and general welfare.
According to him, the prevailing economic realities make it difficult for a young family to shoulder the responsibilities of raising three children at the same time without support from the wider society.
Ochishi said: "God cannot give what He cannot sustain. This blessing requires the support of the entire society.
“At a time like this, we appeal to the government and good-spirited individuals to come to the assistance of this family so that these children can be given the proper care and upbringing they deserve.”
He said the NYCN Ebonyi State Chapter would continue to identify with the family and provide support within its capacity, while urging individuals and organisations to contribute towards the welfare and future of the children.
Ochishi also linked the development to the 2026 International Youth Week celebration in Ebonyi State, describing the birth as a source of joy and a reminder of the need for society to support young families during critical periods.
Speaking during the visit, the father of the triplets, Nwebonyi Israel Timothy, thanked God for the safe delivery of his wife and children.
Timothy also expressed appreciation to the Ebonyi State Governor, Rt. Hon. Bldr. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, for what he described as efforts to improve the healthcare environment in the state.
He particularly acknowledged the role of the National Obstetric Fistula and Infertility Centre (NOFIC), saying the facility provided an environment and facilities that contributed to the successful delivery and survival of the mother and children.
The father also appealed to the government, philanthropists, corporate organisations and other well-meaning Nigerians to assist the family in meeting the financial and other responsibilities associated with raising the triplets.
The NYCN chairman reiterated the council’s commitment to standing by the family and supporting them from time to time.
He urged members of the public to join hands in ensuring that the children receive adequate care, quality education and the opportunity to grow into responsible citizens.
“Build the Youth, Build the Nation.”
