The leadership of the Izhi Forum of Traditional Medicine Practitioners has inaugurated its women leader, Dr Mrs Nwankpa Christiana.
Mrs Nwankpa, a herbalist who hails from the Ehugbo Ndiegu Okpuitumo community in Abakaliki LGA of Ebonyi State specializes in treating poisons, madness, convulsions, and infertility, among other diseases.
Among her vows, was to support the peace and progress of Izhi land; be open to carrying out the leadership of the union and support the state government programs and policies.
Earlier, the State Chairman of the union, Chief Dr Maduabuchi Nwogbaga Ojiugwo, commended the State Governor, Chief Francis Nwifuru for his commitment to taking Ebonyi to a greater height.
Dr Ojiugwo, who doubles as the State Chairman of the National Union of Medical Herbal Practitioners in Ebonyi, described the appointment of the women leader of the union as one of the best ways of facilitating the leadership of the union to build society health-wise.
He urged all the Izhi-born herbalists in any part of the country to come home to work towards developing the herbal medicine profession in the state.
He added: "We formed this union to stop quackery and promote the genuine herbalists in our dear state, but there are no fake herbalists who should be tolerated by this body."
Also, the Secretary of the Union, Alhaji Dr John Nwalem, described the women leader as a unifier, stressing that her leadership thoughtfulness remains meritorious.
Nwalem also commended Governor Nwifuru for his victory and prayed for his success throughout his regime.
Chief Dr Okechukwu Ogbonna Nnenwa, the Vice Chairman of the Union, equally applauded the women leader, for his contributions towards developing the profession.
He also lauded the state governor, Chief Francis Nwifuru, and Abakaliki local government Chairman, Chief Stephen Ebere Nwogba, among others.
