The leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide yesterday asked the leadership of the House of Representatives led by the speaker, Rt. Hon.Tajudeen Abbas to place the Nigeria interest above selected selfish few.
This was contained in a statement signed by its Secretary General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro on Sunday while reacting over the suspension of concrete cement technology on federal roads by the House of Representatives
Isiguzoro explained that cement concrete road construction has been widely proven to be superior in terms of durability and longevity to asphalt if properly used.
He however described the recent motion initiated by Honourable Khadija Ibrahim from Yobe State against the use of cement on federal roads as a direct affront to the collective will and welfare of Nigerians.
His words: "The adoption of concrete technology in road pavement construction has been widely proven to be superior in terms of durability and longevity than asphalt.
"On this note, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, on behalf of the Igbo people and all well-meaning Nigerians, calls upon the leadership of the House of Representatives to prioritize the nation's interest above the contract terms of a select few individuals.
"Therefore, we strongly condemn the suspension and investigation of Cement and Cement Technology by the House of Representatives.
"The adoption of concrete technology in road construction is a crucial step towards sustainable development, economic growth, and improved infrastructure in Nigeria.
"And we urge the House of Representatives to swiftly address this matter and provide the necessary support to the Minister of Works to implement his visionary policies which are targeted at
fostering unity, progress, and prosperity for all Nigerians.
"Also, the notice motion initiated by Hon. Khadija Ibrahim from Yobe State is a direct affront to the collective will and welfare of Nigerians," he explained.
It would be recalled that Hon. Khadija in his motion recently expressed dissatisfaction with the use of cement to construct federal government roads by the Minister of Works, Sen. David Umahi. END//
