Not less than 31 students have been captured by the Chief Executive Officer of Wistop Mega Foundation, Mr Enweogu Wisdom Chukwuemeka for the payment of their school fees for one academic session.
This gesture, according to Enweogo has become part of his lifestyle to touch humanity, especially the less privileged people annually.
"Today 11th November 2023, marks my birthday. As usual, today is my annual activity to reach out to some people. I desire to reach out to the less privileged. My initial plan before today was just to pay the school fees of 20 students ranging from nursing to primary and secondary schools. But a thought came to me this morning, on how best I can make this year very unique, at my 31st birthday anniversary.
"I decided to increase the number to 31 students. Even as I'm talking with you, the Ohaukwu local government area has reported that the students have been cleared. Those students from Ezza North have been equally cleared. Izzi and Ohaozara council areas will submit their reports on Monday. Afikpo North LGA will report on Tuesday, and their counterparts from other local government areas will be cleared before Wednesday."
Speaking on the criteria used to choose the less privileged students, the Philanthropist, said: "We made this open, and the selection process was not political because 95 per cent of the students selected were not children of the members of this foundation. From now till Wednesday, all the 31 students will be paid."
He disclosed his foundation's readiness to continue touching humanity, especially the downtrodden who are currently under his scholarship programs cutting across primary, secondary and tertiary institutions.
He noted that over 1,600 widows are currently on the foundation's payroll, and also disclosed his foundation program tagged, "Operation One Widow, One Footwear in Ebonyi State" as we approach the yuletide.
"I don't even know the people who are our beneficiaries. We have many less-privileged people under our scholarship scheme. We are going to do greater and greater to touch humanity. By December we will embark on free medical outreach in rural areas to continue touching humanity.
"We are hopeful for a partnership from individuals or organisations. We are open to partnership, for our program now tagged, 'One footwear for a poor widow.' We have flagged it off and a lot of people have donated in that regard. By December period, we are going to purchase footwear for the poor widows. If you enter rural areas, look at the legs of married women, you see the kind of footwear they put on, especially the poor widows. Some of them, go bare feet which can result in contact with diseases, and that's what we want to stop.
"We have already over 1,600 widows on our payroll, and we have made a plan to purchase 14 grinding machines for some widows. We have a lot of programs, which will address the plights of the less privileged ones in the state and beyond."
Recall that Enweogo's 31st birthday anniversary was flagged off with free medical outreach in the hinterlands of Ebonyi State.
