The Medical Director of the National Obstetric Fistula Centre, NOFIC, Abakaliki, Prof Johnson Akuma Obuna has won a Medical Meritorious Service Award.
He received the award yesterday from the Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria, MDCAN, of Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital Abakaliki AEFUTHA in Ebonyi State.
Presenting the award on behalf of MDCAN members, Johnson Okoro, described Obuna as a resourceful and productive Icon, who had contributed significantly to manpower development and upliftment of the association in Ebonyi State.
In addition, Uche Nwadugu who read Obuna's citation disclosed that he had many meritorious awards both in Nigeria and abroad, following his positive impacts on society especially in the medical field.
Obuna in his acceptance speech, commended the MDCAN members for the award, saying that their unwavering support contributed a lot to his exceptional leadership, commitment to healthcare excellence and countless efforts in a bid to advance the field of medicine.
He advised young ones to be passionate about what they do in life and commended the leadership of Governor Francis Nwifuru's health policies and programs especially the employment of health personnel in the 13 general hospitals in the state.
"I want to thank the Almighty God for the privilege to serve humanity. I dedicate this award to Him. To my colleagues, when we say we are leaders, always prepare to serve.
"And when you become a leader at any level, always pray to God to give you people that will support you. At NOFIC I have a wonderful management team and that's what I'm being celebrated today. This award will spur me to do more while rendering service to humanity," he concluded.
