Governor Francis Nwifuru has praised the founding fathers of Ebonyi State for their roles, which culminated in the creation of the State 28 years ago and disclosed his government’s intention to appreciate them on October 1st.
Nwifuru stated this on Sunday during the Thanksgiving service held at the Government House, Abakaliki, as part of activities marking the 2024 Independence Anniversary.
He observed that most of the founding fathers of the state are today trekking in the streets and needed to be appreciated by the government in power for their contribution to the State's creation.
The governor called on Nigerians to keep faith with the administration of President Ahmed Bola Tinubu saying that he has set mechanisms to take the country to her desired destination.
He stated that the removal of fuel subsidies by President Tinubu-led Government is a well-thought-out policy which should be commended by all.
He asserted that before the end of the subsidy regime, marketers had held the country to ransom to the point they dictated what happened in the country, even to the detriment of the vast majority.
“Many don’t know it is actually in the interest of Mr President to choose who will be importing fuel if subsidy is not removed. Mr President is the person suffering most from the fuel subsidy.
“If Mr President had allowed these marketers to continue to do what they were doing, this country would not get to this level infrastructurally.
“This decision made by Mr President is timely.”
The governor was optimistic that the hardship occasioned by the subsidy removal would be temporary
“Believe me in less than 6 months from now, fuel will be cheaper than what we have now, " he said
He reiterated his determination to run all-inclusive governance in the state to ensure the temporary effects of subsidy removal are not felt.
”My wish is to make sure everybody is comfortable because we are equal before God Almighty”.
The governor solicited the support and prayers of the people in the task of piloting the affairs of the State.
“Nobody is perfect; as Leaders, we need your prayers at all times. It is better to pray for leaders to translate their visions into reality instead of gossiping about them because no one is perfect,” the governor recommended.
