Chief Mrs. Mary-Maudline Ogbonna Nwifuru, the wife of the Ebonyi State governor, has stepped in to support victims of the devastating gas explosion at Good Shepherd Catering School in Orokeonuoha.
The gas explosion, which occurred on Friday at Good Shepherd Catering School in Orokeonuoha, Ebonyi State, claimed the lives of two students and eight others, left with severe burns.
Mrs Nwifuru's Press Secretary, Nnenna Oshibe made this known in a press release.
During her visit to Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital Abakaliki, where the victims aged 12-19 are receiving treatment, Mrs. Nwifuru donated two million naira through her foundation, Better Health for Rural Women Children and Internally Displaced.
She also provided nine-year-old Anita Afamuefuna with an additional two million naira to cover her surgical expenses ¹.
Mrs. Nwifuru appealed to the medical personnel to provide the best possible care for the victims and ensure their swift recovery.
The Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Prof. Robinson Onoh, assured that medical experts are committed to providing necessary treatment.
According to Onoh, who was represented by Dr. Uchenna Nwedu, chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee, CMAC, eight victims are currently receiving treatment in the hospital's Accident and Emergency Burns and Plastic unit.
"one was discharged after 24 hours admission while one died due to severe burns, Remaining 8. Out of the 8, 6 of them have major burns injury, more than 60 percent affectation and they have been receiving and responding to treatment". Nwedu said
Anita's grandmother, Mrs. Grace Nwankwoagu, expressed gratitude for Mrs. Nwifuru's financial support, revealing that they had been admitted to the hospital for three months.
