--- 16 parties submit nominees ahead of November 8 poll
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has published the personal particulars of all candidates nominated for the November 8, 2025, Anambra State Governorship Election, following the conclusion of political party primaries.
According to a statement signed by Sam Olumekun, National Commissioner and Chairman of INEC’s Information and Voter Education Committee, a total of sixteen political parties successfully uploaded their candidates' nomination forms to the Commission’s dedicated portal before the deadline of 6:00 p.m. on Monday, May 12, 2025.
In line with Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act 2022 and item 4 on INEC's official Timetable and Schedule of Activities, the Commission has displayed Form EC9 — which includes each candidate's personal particulars, academic credentials, and other submitted documents — at the INEC State Headquarters and across all 21 Local Government offices in Anambra State.
INEC is calling on members of the public, especially those who contested in the primaries, to closely examine the documents. “Any aspirant who participated in the primaries and has reasonable grounds to believe that the information submitted by any candidate is false may challenge the nomination in a Federal High Court,” the statement read, citing Section 29(5) of the Electoral Act.
The Commission further announced that the final list of cleared candidates will be published on June 9, 2025 — at least 150 days before the governorship election — in accordance with Section 32(1) of the Electoral Act and item 7 of the election timetable.
The highly anticipated governorship election is slated for Saturday, November 8, 2025.
