The Honourable Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, on Thursday, presented the scorecard of the Renewed Hope administration in the Works Sector, marking two years of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government.
The minister’s briefing, held at the Federal Ministry of Works headquarters in Abuja, underscored major strides in road infrastructure and transformative interventions across the six geo-political zones of Nigeria.
In his remarks, Umahi stated that the ministry has recorded “significant progress” in delivering quality infrastructure, with emphasis on the completion of critical road projects inherited from previous administrations, alongside new legacy projects initiated under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
“We have not only completed numerous projects we inherited, but also embarked on strategic Renewed Hope Legacy Projects and emergency interventions that are already impacting the lives of Nigerians positively,” Umahi said.
According to him, the Key achievements outlined include over 2,400km of roads completed, spanning federal highways, economic corridors, and border link routes.
He noted that the timely emergency interventions in flood-prone and insurgency-affected regions, ensuring connectivity and national securit was among the ministry's feat.
He added that the ministry adopted an innovative concrete pavement technology introduced in select highways, designed to cut long-term maintenance costs and increase road lifespan in the country.
He stated there are ongoing construction of superhighways, including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road and Abuja-Kano Expressway expansion, with Public-Private Partnership (PPP) leverage to fund large-scale projects without overburdening the national treasury.
Umahi credited President Tinubu’s political will and vision under the Renewed Hope Agenda as the driving force behind the ministry’s success, noting that infrastructure development is central to national growth.
“The President has given us a clear mandate—to provide durable, inclusive infrastructure that powers economic development. What we have done so far is only a beginning,” he added.
He further assured Nigerians that the Ministry will continue to prioritize transparency, quality delivery, and value-for-money in all its projects.
The event was attended by senior ministry officials, contractors, development partners, and members of the press. Analysts say the report sets a benchmark for performance review and accountability in public service delivery.
As the administration enters its third year, expectations remain high for sustained infrastructure momentum that will bridge developmental gaps and unlock economic opportunities across the federation.
