In a show of solidarity and religious inclusivity, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, joined the Muslim community in Abia State to celebrate the Eid-el-Kabir festival through generous donations of rams, bags of rice, and other food items.
The outreach, which took place in Bende, Bende Local Government Area of Abia State, was described as a gesture aimed at fostering unity and promoting the values of compassion and charity, which are central to the Eid-el-Kabir celebration. The donation was formally announced in a statement issued by Kalu’s Special Assistant on Press Affairs, Udora Orizu, and circulated to newsmen in Abuja.
Speaking during the presentation, Kalu, who represents Bende Federal Constituency, encouraged the Muslim faithful to extend love and support to the less privileged in the spirit of the season. He emphasized the importance of religious harmony and reaffirmed his commitment to advancing the welfare of his constituents.
“Eid-el-Kabir is a time to reflect on sacrifice and service to others. I urge our Muslim brothers and sisters to continue spreading love, especially to those in need,” Kalu said, adding that he remains dedicated to delivering the dividends of democracy across religious and ethnic lines.
The gifts were received by the leader of the Abia Muslim community, HRH Sarki Shehu Bello, who led a delegation of Muslim faithful at the event. He praised the Deputy Speaker for his thoughtfulness and inclusivity, noting that such gestures go a long way in strengthening peaceful coexistence in a diverse society.
“On behalf of the Muslim community, we want to appreciate His Excellency, the Deputy Speaker, for remembering us,” Bello said. “He has ensured that Muslims in Abia State celebrate Sallah in harmony, happiness, and joy. May God bless him abundantly and grant him long life.”
The event not only highlighted the spirit of Eid-el-Kabir but also underscored the growing efforts toward interfaith cooperation and communal support in Abia State.
