The Association of Izzi Media Workers (AIMW) has issued a firm response to what it described as divisive and misleading publications aimed at undermining the unity of the Izzi people and discrediting the leadership of Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru of Ebonyi State.
Speaking during a press conference at the Nkwegu Ugbala Grand Arena, Abakaliki, the group which comprises journalists from both Igbojima and Unwuera kindreds categorically condemned a recent article authored by Mr. Cajetan Njoku, a former Coordinator of Ominyi Development Centre in Izzi LGA.
The publication, titled “Ethnic Capture in Ebonyi: A Crisis of Justice Under Governor Nwifuru’s Watch”, was described as inflammatory, factually incorrect, and culturally offensive.
Reading from a prepared statement, National President of AIMW, Comrade Emmanuel Nwizi, said: “Mr. Njoku does not speak for Unwuera. His claims are not only false but dangerous. They do not reflect the collective position of the Izzi people, who remain united in support of Governor Nwifuru’s administration.”
The media body emphasized that Governor Nwifuru’s emergence and success are products of a collective effort involving both Igbojima and Unwuera, and that his appointments and policies reflect a fair balance between the two kindreds.
They further pointed out that key positions in the State Executive Council, Ebonyi State House of Assembly, local government councils, traditional institutions, and other government structures have representatives from both branches of the Izzi clan while dismissing Njoku’s narrative of marginalization.
AIMW also condemned what it called “cultural misrepresentation” in the publication, stating that Izzi and Igbo traditions uphold seniority, mutual respect, and communal harmony.
The group warned against weaponizing culture for political purposes, saying such actions only breed resentment and threaten peace.
“The Izzi people have always thrived on unity and brotherhood,” said Comrade Moses Nwite, Secretary-General.
“We have fought wars together, intermarried, and built communities side by side. No single individual should be allowed to destroy that legacy with reckless words.”
Calling on security agencies to monitor hate speech and publications capable of inciting unrest, the association urged all stakeholders—traditional rulers, political leaders, youth, and civil society to reject divisive narratives and focus on development, peace, and progress.
They reaffirmed their support for Governor Nwifuru and urged him to remain steadfast in delivering people-focused governance across the state.
“We stand firmly with the Governor,” said Comrade Victor Chibueze Nwegede, Publicity Secretary.
“Leadership is not about where someone comes from but the quality of service and commitment to all. Governor Nwifuru has shown inclusivity, and we commend him for that," Nwegede added.
The conference ended with a resounding call for unity and maturity in public discourse, underscoring that political disagreements must never be allowed to tear the Izzi family apart.
“We are Izzi Nnodo Ekumaenyi—stronger together, always," they concluded.
