The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State has dismissed as false and misleading reports that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has taken over its state secretariat and political structures.
In a statement signed by the PDP State Secretary, Comrade Dan Nyikwagh, the party described the claim as “a failed piece of mischief and shameless misinformation,” allegedly orchestrated by elements within the ADC to deceive the public and create political confusion.
According to Nyikwagh, the building being referenced was the former PDP State Secretariat located at No. 1, Ochagwu Lawani Street, Makurdi—property belonging to former Benue State Governor, Gabriel Suswam. He alleged that Suswam, who had earlier locked out PDP officials from the premises, has now handed it over to the ADC.
“The PDP relocated from that property to a new and functional Secretariat located at Nos. 16/18 Abdullahi Shelleng Road, High Level, Makurdi, after the unjustified closure by Suswam’s associates,” the statement clarified.
Nyikwagh emphasized that the PDP in Benue had long conducted its congresses at the ward, local government, and state levels, with all resulting structures duly recognized and gazetted by the PDP National Secretariat. He said those congresses produced legitimate party leadership with a four-year tenure that remains active.
“The claim by ADC that they have taken over PDP’s structures simply because they now occupy the former secretariat is both deceptive and laughable,” he said.
“A party worth its salt should begin with its own identity, not with attempts to perch on the back of another," he further stated.
The PDP accused ADC of lacking the grassroots presence and credibility to stand on its own, alleging the new party was “an assemblage of failed and retired politicians trying to make another attempt at relevance.”
The statement urged the public and party members to disregard the “propaganda” and reaffirmed the PDP’s commitment to strengthening its structures and providing leadership in Benue State.
