The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the commencement of the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise across 811 designated centres, starting with online pre-registration on August 18, 2025.
This was contained in a press statement issued on Thursday by the National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun mni, following the Commission’s weekly meeting in Abuja.
According to the statement, physical (in-person) registration will commence a week later on August 25, 2025, and both online and offline modes will continue concurrently until August 30, 2026. Registration centres include all 774 local government offices and 37 state/FCT offices, operating from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, Mondays to Fridays, excluding national public holidays.
To assist eligible citizens, the Commission will launch an online CVR Live Locator on August 17, 2025, accessible via https://cvr.inecnigeria.org/locator, to enable Nigerians find the nearest registration centres with ease.
A 38-page document listing all 811 centre addresses has been uploaded on INEC’s official website alongside contact numbers for Help Desks in each state. INEC also assured that further updates, including instructional video guides, will be released next week.
In another major development, INEC disclosed that it has now received a total of 151 letters of intent from associations seeking to be registered as political parties. This figure includes eight new submissions received since the last update on July 23, 2025.
The Commission said it has activated its Party Registration Portal and commenced the shortlisting of associations that meet initial requirements. However, final updates will be provided after the 16 bye-elections scheduled to hold in 12 states on Saturday, August 16, 2025.
INEC reiterated its commitment to transparency and timely updates, urging Nigerians to stay engaged with its official platforms for verified information.
“The Commission shall continue to keep citizens informed on all its activities,” the statement concluded.
