The Special Assistant to the Ebonyi State Governor on Inter-Party Affairs, Comrade Sunday Nwambam, has lambasted suspended General Manager of Legacy FM, Mr. Odo Godfrey Chikwere, branding him a “serial betrayer, fake journalist, and enemy within” over his recent social media outburst against Governor Francis Nwifuru’s administration.
In a weekend statement, Nwambam, a veteran journalist accused Chikwere of a long-standing pattern of exploiting proximity to leaders as a weapon to undermine them.
He recalled that during former Governor David Umahi’s tenure, Chikwere, then a staff of the state broadcast station and government appointee routinely ridiculed Umahi’s policies while feigning loyalty, a campaign that eventually forced him into a humiliating public apology.
Describing Chikwere’s latest Facebook post as “a malicious essay designed to trigger a perception crisis,” Nwambam dismissed him as neither a journalist nor a member of the NUJ, but “a man without the ethics or capacity for the profession.”
“For too long, Odo Godfrey Chikwere has hidden behind the mask of ‘friendship’ with leaders, using access to power as a tool for sabotage.
"Yesterday it was Umahi; today it is Nwifuru. This is the man’s tired script— infiltrate, pretend, attack, then grovel when caught,” Nwambam said.
He maintained that Chikwere’s entire career is built on “opportunism, betrayal, and evil drama,”
According to Nwambam, Chikwere’s poor command of grammar and lack of leadership skill “make him unfit to run a Facebook page, let alone a media outfit.”
“Governor Nwifuru’s real threat is not the opposition, but insiders like Chikwere, who perfect the art of biting the very hands that feed them,” Nwambam stressed, adding that “Ebonyi people are happy with the governor’s leadership and will not allow a miscreant and beggar to create problems for the state.”
Chikwere’s controversial Facebook post laden with sharp criticism of Governor Nwifuru’s style, communication strategy, and handling of appointees has sparked heated reactions in Ebonyi’s political circles.
In the post, Chikwere claimed the governor’s image and goodwill were “dwindling daily” and accused his aides of “pampering underperformers,” warning that “good intentions without results are like a reckless woman expecting to conceive at will after courting infections.”
Nwambam’s rebuttal signaled a deepening political rift and a clear intent to isolate voices within the system that the government perceives as subversive.
Hear Nwambam in full: "Odo Godfrey Chikwere: Serial Betrayer, Fake Journalist, and Enemy Within
"For too long, Odo Godfrey Chikwere has hidden behind the mask of “friendship” with leaders, using his proximity to power as a weapon to undermine the very governments that gave him a chance.
"Today, he trains his poisonous fingers on Governor Francis Nwifuru with calculated mischief. Yesterday, it was. Former Governor David Umahi — now Minister of Works who was the victim of Chikwere’s treacherous antics.
"It is on record that during Umahi’s tenure, Chikwere, then parading himself as a staff of the state broadcast station and an appointee of the Umahi-led government launched a sustained barrage of attacks, publicly ridiculing the Umah’s policies while pretending to work in his interest.
" His shamelessness reached such a peak that he eventually had to publicly apologise to Umahi at an open function, literally begging for forgiveness.
"This is the man’s pattern: infiltrate, pretend, attack, then grovel when caught.
"Now, the same tired script is being replayed against Governor Nwifuru. Chikwere claims to be a supporter, yet operates as the biggest internal saboteur.
"His recent Facebook post, disguised as “constructive criticism,” is nothing more than a malicious essay engineered to create perception crises and erode public trust in the administration.
"Let’s be clear: Odo Chikwere is not a journalist. He is not a member of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ebonyi State Council, and He lacks ethical knowledge of the professional.
"His grammar is a scandal; his capacity for leadership is so poor that one would hesitate to entrust him with a Facebook page, let alone a media outfit.
"His entire career is built on opportunism, betrayal, and theatrical drama. He worms his way into leadership circles to exploit goodwill, then weaponises that access to cause damage from within.
"Unlike open critics such as Chika Nwoba, who never disguise their opposition, Chikwere is the quintessential wolf in sheep’s clothing, pretending loyalty while plotting downfall. The Umahi episode should have been a warning to all.
"Today, he is Governor Nwifuru’s “friend” in the day and his fiercest enemy at night. Tomorrow, he will be somewhere else, rehearsing the same script.
"Governor Nwifuru’s real threat is not the opposition; it is this man, who thrives on betrayal and has perfected the art of biting the very hands that feed him. The time to expose and isolate him is now.
"Ebonyi people are happy for the leadership ingenuity of Governor Francis Nwifuru and will not allow a miscreant and begger to create problem to the people of the state."
