The Executive Chairman of Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, Prince Ikechukwu Odono, has unveiled a multimillion-naira empowerment programme to celebrate his one year in office for a second term, in a move aimed at tackling unemployment, boosting grassroots businesses, and improving healthcare delivery.
The initiative, launched on Monday at his Ezzamgbo residence, featured the distribution of motorcycles, grinding machines, hospital equipment, and a ₦1 million empowerment fund for small-scale projects.
Odono, who anchored the gesture on the “People’s Charter of Needs mantra of Governor Francis Nwifuru-led administration in Ebonyi State said the scheme was designed to promote economic self-reliance and ease the daily struggles of residents.
He reiterated his commitment to delivering on his campaign promises and aligning with the policies of Governor Francis Nwifuru in driving peace, prosperity, and practical dividends of democracy to the people of Ohaukwu.
The colourful event, which doubled as a celebration of his one year in office for the second term, attracted dignitaries including Chief Sunday Inyima - State Commissioner for Capital City and Urban Development; Comrade Tobias Oge - Special Assistant to the Governor on Internal Security; Comrade Eze Paul - Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth Mobilisation; Engineer Charles Okey - APC Chairman in Ohaukwu LGA , Prince Ndubuisi Chibueze Agbo - former Commissioner for Education; and Chief Mrs. Chinyere Elom, among others.
Beneficiaries of the empowerment programme, overwhelmed with gratitude, pledged to put the items and funds into productive use to strengthen the local economy.
Observers have described the move as a bold step toward building a self-reliant and economically stable Ohaukwu.
