Abakaliki Football Club has reaffirmed its ambition to secure promotion to the top tier of Nigerian football following the conclusion of the 2025/2026 Nigeria National League season.
The club made this known in an end-of-season statement issued after its final fixture against Calabar Rovers FC in Calabar, thanking supporters for their consistent backing throughout the campaign.
In the statement, signed by the club’s chairman, Senator Obinna Ogba, the management expressed appreciation to fans for their loyalty despite the team’s inability to secure promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League.
The club acknowledged the disappointment of missing out on promotion and accepted responsibility for not achieving its target, while apologising to supporters for the outcome of the season.
Abakaliki FC also commended the Governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, for his support and commitment to sports development, noting that government backing has contributed to the growth of football in the state.
The management further appreciated the Ebonyi State Ministry of Youth Development and Sports, led by Commissioner Richard Ugo Idike, for providing facilities and support during the season.
Looking ahead, the club said it has commenced a review of its performance and will take steps to strengthen the team and improve its structure ahead of the 2026/2027 NNL season.
Abakaliki FC reaffirmed its commitment to achieving promotion and urged supporters to remain steadfast as the team prepares for the next campaign.
