Former National Legal Adviser of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Jacob Mark, has taken a swipe at the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, accusing him of meddling in PDP affairs despite being absent from its structures and decision-making processes.
Speaking in an interview with Arise News on Wednesday, Mark said Wike’s remarks dismissing the chances of former President Goodluck Jonathan and ex-Labour Party candidate, Peter Obi, in the 2027 presidential election were both arrogant and misplaced.
“We can say without any doubt that Wike is not a member of the PDP. He has not attended any meetings, he has not made contributions to decisions, yet he goes on air to issue directives. It is strange,” Mark stated.
He mocked Wike’s self-importance, questioning the basis of his confidence. “I wonder where Wike gets his power. Looking at him physically, he is not even strong. I don’t think he has anything extraordinary mentally or psychologically to warrant such self-assessment of might,” he said.
Mark accused the minister of trying to project himself as an alternate power center in Abuja through constant media briefings that overshadow President Bola Tinubu. He also rejected Wike’s assertion that Jonathan’s 2015 electoral loss was an embarrassment, insisting that the former president’s decision to concede defeat prevented post-election chaos.
“Jonathan’s action was statesmanship. He saved this country from crisis. To call that an embarrassment is uncharitable,” Mark noted.
On Wike’s warning that returning Jonathan or Obi into the PDP fold would be a “big mistake,” Mark dismissed the comments as mere grandstanding from someone who no longer participates in the party’s internal processes.
