*Nigerians demand accountability over rising death toll from company’s vehicles
A fresh wave of anger has gripped the nation after a Dangote truck crushed several persons, including members of the same family, to death on Wednesday at Four Corner, along the Enugu–Port Harcourt expressway in Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State.
Eyewitnesses described the scene as horrific, with mangled bodies pulled from the wreckage and survivors rushed to hospitals.
Many residents blocked sections of the highway, accusing the Dangote Group of turning Nigerian roads into “death traps” through the recklessness of its drivers.
The tragedy came amid a disturbing pattern of fatal crashes involving Dangote trucks across the country.
Only weeks ago, one of the company’s vehicles struck Ruth Otabor, sister of Big Brother Naija winner Phyna, in Edo State, leading to her death after a leg amputation.
In April, 19 lives were lost when another Dangote truck rammed into a Toyota Hiace bus on the Okene–Lokoja highway.
Civil society groups and transport unions are now demanding urgent intervention from the Federal Government, with calls for a national safety audit of Dangote’s fleet and stiff sanctions for repeated violations.
“This carnage must stop. No company is bigger than Nigeria,” one furious resident said, summing up a growing sentiment that the unchecked menace of Dangote trucks has become a national emergency.
