Tension has gripped residents of Onueke community in Ezza South LGA of Ebonyi State after claims that a man recently buried was allegedly captured on CCTV returning home at night to dine with his family.
The deceased, identified as Mr. Nnamdi Oke, 56, was said to have been buried in his compound on September 3 after a brief illness. But barely a week later, unusual events reportedly unsettled the household.
According to family members, strange noises were first heard in the compound at night. Their shock deepened after reviewing CCTV footage which, they claim, showed “a figure resembling Oke” entering the sitting room around midnight, sitting at the dining table, and appearing to eat from food left out.
“The footage showed someone that looked exactly like Nnamdi… we were all shocked,” a relative told reporters.
The incident has divided the community. While some residents insist the video may have been doctored, others argue it is evidence of a supernatural return.
Local traditional leaders have summoned the Oke family and pledged to consult spiritualists to unravel the mystery. Medical professionals, however, remain skeptical. A doctor in Abakaliki explained:
“Grieving families sometimes experience hallucinations. Unless the footage is independently verified, it could be a trick of light or editing.”
Despite doubts, the purported footage has already gone viral on social media, sparking heated debate across Nigeria about whether the dead can indeed return.
For now, anxiety persists in Onueke as residents await explanations from both spiritual and scientific quarters on the alleged midnight return of the late Mr. Oke.
