Dr. Ezeh Emmanuel Ezeh, the 2023 Labour Party Candidate for Abakaliki/Izzi Federal Constituency, has declared that the future of Nigeria’s opposition and indeed the nation’s political direction rests squarely on the choices of Mr. Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 general election.
Reacting to recent calls by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for Obi and Mallam Nasir El-Rufai to join its coalition or “forget about it,” Dr. Ezeh dismissed the ultimatum as “laughable,” insisting that without Obi, no serious coalition can survive.
“Peter Obi is the nucleus. Everyone else is orbiting,” Ezeh stated, adding that Obi remains the “heartbeat of any credible opposition movement” with a grassroots appeal that transcends machinery.
According to him, Nigerians across diverse backgrounds—students, traders, artisans, and professionals have embraced Obi not merely as a candidate but as a movement. “Belief in politics is more powerful than machinery, and Obi commands that belief,” he said.
Outlining two possible pathways before Obi, Dr. Ezeh argued that the Labour Party leader could either spearhead a broad-based opposition coalition or contest solo under the LP platform.
“One path is unity: bringing together PDP’s northern structure, Sowore’s revolutionaries, APGA’s base in the South East, and even El-Rufai’s tactical mind. The other path is purity: standing firm with the Labour Party, consolidating the South East, South South, and Middle Belt, while fracturing APC’s base and forcing a runoff,” Dr. Ezeh explained.
He maintained that either option places Obi in a winning position, noting that his credibility and moral clarity offer Nigerians hope beyond transactional politics.
Comparing Obi to historical political figures, Dr. Ezeh declared: “Like Zik in the East, Buhari in the North, Awolowo in the West, and Abiola in the hearts of the oppressed, Obi must rise as a symbol of redemption.”
He concluded that the decisive months ahead will determine whether opposition unity materializes, whether Atiku Abubakar swallows his pride, and whether El-Rufai positions as kingmaker or contender.
“Whatever happens, Obi holds the pen that will write Nigeria’s next chapter,” Dr. Ezeh asserted.
