Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have uncovered and dismantled an illegal factory producing toxic fake beverages in Okpoko, Ogbaru Local Government Area.
The operation, carried out by the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, on September 3, 2025, led to the arrest of 48-year-old Chigozie Okafor, suspected to be behind the illicit business. Several cartons of counterfeit juice, branded as “Iyi Obeleagu Juice”, were recovered from the site.
Police spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed the arrest in a statement issued in Awka on September 7, stressing that the Command remains resolute in clamping down on illegal manufacturing practices across the state.
The products, manufactured without approval from the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), are considered harmful to both children and adults.
According to the police mouthpiece, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has ordered a comprehensive investigation to trace other perpetrators linked to the operation.
He warned that the Command will not tolerate criminal activities endangering public health.
