The Ebonyi State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its sustained war against violent crimes, with the neutralisation of a notorious criminal kingpin terrorising Iyonu community in Ishielu Local Government Area of the state.
In a statement referenced AZ:5200/EBS/PPRO/VOL.9/25 and dated 3rd September, 2025, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Joshua Ukandu, disclosed that operatives of the Command’s Crack Squad, acting on credible intelligence, stormed a criminal hideout in Iyonu Forest on 29th August, 2025.
The hoodlums, according to the release, engaged the police in a fierce gun battle, but were subdued.
In the process, the syndicate’s leader, identified as Isaiah Okoronkwo, who had long been on the Command’s wanted list, was neutralised. Two AK-47 rifles were also recovered from the scene.
Commending the officers for their bravery and professionalism, the Commissioner of Police, CP Adaku Uche-Anya, reassured residents of the Command’s resolve to rid the state of violent crime.
“The Command remains unwavering in its mandate to protect lives and property, and will continue to dismantle criminal networks wherever they operate,” she stated.
The police urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue to support security agencies with credible information to ensure lasting peace across the state.
