Executives of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Ebonyi State Council, have been re-elected for a second tenure.
The re-election took place on Thursday during the delegate congress of the union held in Abakaliki, the state capital.
The motion for the re-election of the executives was moved by Charles Nwali of the Association of Senior Civil Servants and Nwanneka Chukwuba, a member of the Law Officers Association of Nigeria (LOAN).
The congress, which was witnessed by government officials and leaders of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in the state, reaffirmed the confidence of members in the leadership team.
Those re-elected include: Comrade Chidi Nwigboji – Chairman, Nwanneka Chukwuba – Vice Chairman, Nwogbodo Vincent – Secretary, Aja Kelechi – Treasurer and Nwaji Sunday – Financial Secretary, among others.
In his acceptance speech, the Chairman, Comrade Nwigboji, thanked members for their trust and assured them of his continued commitment to promoting their welfare.
He noted that the state council would communicate the outcome of the congress to the national body and expressed optimism about maintaining a harmonious relationship between the state and national leadership of the TUC.
“This is the state council, not the national council. We are at the grassroots level, and I believe the national body will accept our decision. You journalists witnessed everything we did here. Both SAC and SEC were present, and it was the collective decision of our members and affiliate unions to re-elect us,” he said.
Also speaking, Comrade Ikechukwu Nwafor, former Chairman of the NLC, Ebonyi State, commended members of the TUC for their unity of purpose, which, he said, ensured the smooth conduct of the election.
