The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, have reportedly reconciled their differences following a high-level meeting with members of the Rivers State Elders Council in Port Harcourt.
The reunion took place over the weekend and was confirmed by Wike’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, via a post on 𝕏 (formerly Twitter) on Sunday.
According to Olayinka, those present at the meeting included the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martins Amaewhule, and the Chairman of the Rivers State Elders Council, Chief Ferdinand Alabraba, among other key political figures.
“FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, Chairman of the Rivers State Elders Council, Chief Ferdinand Alabraba, Speaker of Rivers State House of Assembly, Martins Amaewhule, and other leaders held a meeting in Port Harcourt yesterday,” Olayinka posted.
“The political family is fully united. It was the first meeting of all the political leaders on Wike’s side with Fubara.”
The reconciliation marks a significant thaw in relations between Wike and Fubara, whose political rift had caused deep divisions within the Rivers State government and the ruling party in the state.
Recall that about six months ago, President Bola Tinubu intervened in the Rivers political crisis and temporarily suspended Governor Fubara to prevent a further escalation of tensions between both camps.
The latest development signaled a possible return to political stability in the state, which has been marred by months of factional disputes and leadership tussles.
