The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ebonyi State Chapter, delivered a commanding performance on Monday, October 20, defeating the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) 3–0 in a spirited novelty football match as part of the 2025 Press Week celebrations.
Held at the Pa Ngele Oruta Township Stadium in Abakaliki, the match offered a lively blend of competition and camaraderie.
The first half ended goalless, with both sides testing each other’s resolve in a tightly contested battle.
But the second half belonged to the journalists, who found their rhythm and netted three unanswered goals, thrilling the crowd and sealing a memorable victory.
Event coordinator, Comrade Godwin Oguta, extolled both teams for their sportsmanship and competitive spirit.
He highlighted the importance of the match in fostering unity and mutual respect between the media and medical professionals.
“This game wasn’t just about goals. It was about collaboration, friendship, and celebrating our shared commitment to public service," Oguta said.
The match added a vibrant touch to the weeklong celebration, reinforcing the Press Week's broader goal of promoting professional solidarity through sports and social engagement.
