The Kwara State Government has confirmed the release of all 38 worshippers who were abducted during an attack at the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Oke-Isegun, in Eruku, Ekiti Local Government Area.
The victims, who were kidnapped during a church programme last week, were freed on Sunday following days of intense coordinated operations involving multiple security agencies.
In a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Rafiu Ajakaye, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq described the development as “a major relief for the state and families affected.”
He noted that the rescue followed sustained efforts by the Office of the National Security Adviser, the Department of State Services, the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Nigeria Intelligence Agency.
According to the statement, President Bola Tinubu had earlier directed security agencies to scale up operations in response to recent abductions in Kwara and Kebbi states, leading to the deployment of additional tactical teams to the affected areas.
Governor AbdulRazaq expressed gratitude to the security operatives and local stakeholders, applauding their collaboration and resilience during the operation.
He also commended community leaders and residents of Eruku and neighbouring communities for providing intelligence and support that aided the rescue.
However, security agencies have not yet provided details on the conditions of the victims, the nature of the rescue, or whether any arrests were made during the operation.
The state government reiterated its commitment to strengthening security structures and enhancing community safety to prevent future incidents.
