The Ebonyi State chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has called on the Federal Government and security agencies to immediately arrest and prosecute individuals particularly political cabals allegedly fueling insecurity across the country.
The State Chairman of the Council, Comrade Douglas Ochishi, made the demand while expressing deep concern over the persistent wave of kidnappings, terrorist attacks, and politically motivated violence destabilizing various communities nationwide.
Ochishi said the worsening security situation, including the abduction of schoolchildren, attacks on worship centres, and repeated raids by armed groups, has pushed citizens to the brink of tolerance.
According to him, the escalation of violence is being aided by powerful individuals who benefit politically or financially from national unrest.
“Anybody traced to be the source of insecurity in this country should be arrested and prosecuted. No person is bigger than the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he declared.
“If we must get this country right, then government must beam its searchlight on everyone.”
He added that many of those who previously criticized past administrations over insecurity are today in positions of authority and now appreciate the complexity of safeguarding a diverse nation like Nigeria.
Ochishi stressed that tackling insecurity demands coordinated and depoliticized action, not rhetoric or selective enforcement.
He urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to sustain ongoing security operations while intensifying surveillance on individuals and political groups allegedly profiting from chaos.
The youth leader also issued a stern caution to citizens who shield criminals within their communities, describing such acts as direct contributions to the country’s insecurity.
“When you see something and keep quiet, you are part of the problem. But when you report, you help save lives,” he said, urging Nigerians especially young people to remain vigilant and reject criminal influences.
Ochishi commended the Ebonyi State Government under Governor Francis Nwifuru, as well as the Tinubu-led Federal Government, for their ongoing efforts to restore peace.
He emphasized that youths must complement these efforts by embracing hard work, staying law-abiding, and distancing themselves from social vices.
Expressing optimism about the nation’s future, the NYCN chairman insisted that Nigeria can overcome insecurity only when citizens stop protecting those who undermine the country.
“Nigeria will overcome this insecurity, but only when we stop protecting the enemies of peace. Whoever the insecurity of this country is linked to should be arrested and prosecuted in line with the Constitution. That is the only way we can end this menace," he said.
