Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo has been re-elected in a decisive victory, extending the dominance of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the state.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Soludo the winner of Saturday’s off-cycle poll after he swept all 21 Local Government areas, reportedly amassing over 420,000 votes against his closest rival from the APC.
President Bola Tinubu congratulated Soludo on Sunday, describing the outcome as “an affirmation of visionary leadership” and pledging closer collaboration between the federal government and Anambra State.
In a statement, Tinubu commended the voters, security agencies, and INEC for ensuring a peaceful and credible election.
“The victory of Governor Soludo demonstrates the power of effective governance and progressive leadership,” Tinubu said, urging the governor to seek cooperation from political opponents and remain magnanimous in victory.
He also praised the new INEC chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, and encouraged the commission to maintain high standards in future elections.
Soludo’s re-election makes him the third governor in Anambra’s political history to win a second term, following Peter Obi and Willie Obiano.
Analysts had framed the contest as a test of APGA’s entrenched base and the strength of opposition parties in the South-East.
The result strengthens APGA’s two-decade grip on Anambra politics and gives fresh momentum to Soludo’s administration, which will continue until March 2026.
Highlighting the governor’s achievements, Tinubu said, “Under Soludo’s leadership, Anambra is living up to its motto as the Light of the Nation. His governance is marked by discipline, transparency, and innovative public service.”
The President recalled his visit to Anambra in May 2025, where he inaugurated projects executed under Soludo’s administration, describing them as “remarkable and forward-thinking.”
With this victory, APGA continues to consolidate its political influence in the South-East, while the federal government signals a readiness to support state initiatives and strengthen collaboration for development.
