Ebonyi State Governor, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifruru, has been elected the Chairman, Board of Trustees (BOT) of the Forum of Former Presiding Officers of State Houses of Assembly in Nigeria.
The Forum, a national body comprising all former Speakers and Deputy Speakers from the 36 State Houses of Assembly, is dedicated to strengthening democratic governance, enhancing legislative collaboration, and contributing to national development through policy advocacy and institutional support.
Governor Nwifruru’s elevation to the BOT chairmanship is seen as a recognition of his extensive legislative experience and his record of service.
He was first elected into the Ebonyi State House of Assembly in 2011, rising to become Speaker in 2015, a position he held until 2023, when he was elected the 4th Civilian Governor of Ebonyi State.
During his tenure as Speaker, Nwifruru was acknowledged as a stabilizing force in the legislature, forging strong cooperation between the Assembly and the Executive arm of government.
His leadership ensured that government policies and programmes aligned with the needs and aspirations of the people, contributing to the state’s progress in key sectors.
As the new BOT Chairman, Governor Nwifruru is expected to bring his wealth of experience to the Forum, guiding its mission to support democratic institutions, encourage mentorship among former legislators, and drive meaningful engagement in national governance.
