LR: Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State and Comrade Douglas Ochishi, NYCN boss in Ebonyi State.
The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Ebonyi State Chapter, has congratulated Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru on his emergence as Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BOT) of the Forum of Former Presiding Officers of State Houses of Assembly in Nigeria.
In a statement issued by its Chairman, Comrade Douglas Ochishi, the council described the appointment as a major national endorsement of Governor Nwifuru’s leadership record and legislative experience.
The Forum, made up of former Speakers and Deputy Speakers from all 36 states, conferred the role in recognition of his contributions to parliamentary development and democratic governance.
Governor Nwifuru, who began his legislative career in 2011, served as Speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly from 2015 to 2023 before becoming the state’s fourth civilian governor.
According to the NYCN, his speakership was marked by constructive cooperation between the legislature and executive, ensuring alignment of government policies with public needs.
The youth council noted that his administration has continued to attract national attention through reforms in human capital development and infrastructure, positioning Ebonyi State as a model of people-centered governance.
Describing his new role as both well-deserved and symbolic, Ochishi said it reflects the trust and confidence reposed in the governor to strengthen democratic institutions and promote collaboration among former presiding officers across the country.
“The youths of Ebonyi State celebrate this milestone and remain proud of the governor’s commitment to inclusive and visionary leadership,” the statement added.
The council expressed optimism that Governor Nwifuru’s new responsibility would create further opportunities for him to contribute meaningfully to national development.
