A board member of the Ebonyi Broadcasting Corporation, Comrade Nnamdi Akpa, and four journalists on Thursday narrowly escaped death in a motor accident along the Nkpuma Akpatakpa road in Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
The media team was returning from Okpuduma Agbaja Village, where they had covered the 21st anniversary of the Regina Pacis Foundation, an event attended by Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State and other dignitaries, when the accident occurred.
The crash, which happened on Thursday involved a Honda Accord with registration number Ebonyi ET513-APP, driven by Comrade Akpa, who also serves as the Guardian Newspaper Correspondent in Ebonyi State.
The car reportedly veered off the road, swerved into a nearby farm, and finally stopped after hitting a heap of sand.
Speaking after the incident, Akpa said the vehicle suddenly lost control while the team was returning from the press assignment.
He thanked God for preserving their lives, noting that although no life was lost, some occupants sustained varying degrees of injuries.
Those injured included Comrade Chijioke Njoku of Afia-TV, Comrade Brenda Chidinma Imo-Eze of Spring News, Mrs. Nnenna Mbah of 247- U-Reporter, and Miss Ilobe Martha of MCC Mirror Newspaper.
Comrade Njoku described the crash as both fatal and miraculous, expressing gratitude to God for their survival and commending Akpa for his quick response, which he said helped avert a worse outcome.
As of the time of filing this report, two of the victims had been moved to Abakaliki for further medical attention, while others were said to be in stable condition.
