The African Democratic Congress (ADC), Ebonyi State chapter, has intensified grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2026 local government elections with the distribution of membership registration registers to all the 171 wards in the state.
The exercise, which took place at the party’s state secretariat along the old Enugu–Abakaliki Road, forms part of ADC’s strategy to strengthen its structures at the ward and local government levels and position the party for effective participation in the forthcoming council polls.
Addressing journalists after the distribution, the State Chairman of the party, Dr. Jennifer Adibe-Nwafor, charged ward and local government chairmen to return to their communities and mobilise massively for the party. She urged members who were yet to fully identify with the ADC to do so by formally registering and actively participating in party activities.
Adibe-Nwafor emphasised the importance of obtaining party membership cards and Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs), describing them as essential tools for genuine participation in the democratic process. According to her, party members without PVCs cannot effectively contribute to the party’s electoral success.
She explained that the meeting brought together ward chairmen, local government chairmen and secretaries, as well as youth and women leaders, to review the party’s progress and assess the level of mobilisation across the state.
“This meeting is to brief our leaders on the progress we have made so far and to hear from them on how far they have gone in mobilising for the party.
"Most of our local government chairmen have secured secretariats, and some ward chairmen have done the same.
"Today, we distributed the 171 ward registers to enable continuous registration and mobilisation,” she said.
The ADC chairman added that the party remains open to new members, calling on those still undecided to take a clear position by joining the party, noting that this is the time for commitment and active participation.
Also speaking, the National Vice Chairman (Diaspora) of the ADC, Chief Fred Onwe, said the party in Ebonyi State is fully equipped and prepared to contest elections at all levels. He noted that the distribution of ward registers, donated by a stakeholder of the party, underscored the seriousness of ADC’s mobilisation drive.
“We are not playing politics. We are partnering with our local government chairmen, youth leaders and other stakeholders to identify our gaps and strengthen our structures. ADC in Ebonyi is ready for elections in any capacity,” Onwe said.
The Zonal Organising Secretary, Hon. Mrs. Nwotubo Catherine, said the party was working tirelessly to unite Nigerians and rescue the country from hardship.
“Nigeria is in serious trouble, and ADC is determined to rescue the nation from pain and sorrow. That is why we are mobilising our people to come together and work for the party,” she stated.
In his remarks, the National Coordinator of the National Coalition Alliance, Engineer Dr. Opoke Sunday Andrew, described ADC as “a child of circumstance” that emerged in response to the nation’s socio-economic and security challenges. He accused the ruling party of plunging the country into poverty, insecurity and uncertainty, insisting that ADC has come to offer a credible alternative.
According to him, ADC’s mission is to restore security, expand access to democratic dividends and rebuild Nigeria’s image both locally and internationally.
“Today, people are no longer safe travelling by road or air. Kidnapping has turned human beings into commodities. ADC has come to change this narrative and build a country where every citizen, regardless of background, can thrive,” he said.
Chairmen of the ADC in Onicha, Ohaukwu and Ishielu local government areas, Uzor Charles, Eze Eupherim and Igwe James commended the state leadership for providing the ward registration registers, saying the exercise would strengthen grassroots mobilisation and consolidate the party’s presence across Ebonyi State ahead of the 2026 local government elections.
