The Labour Party in Ebonyi State has entered a new phase of renewal and consolidation as the National Leadership, under Senator Nenadi Usman and National Secretary Senator Darlington Nwokocha, inaugurated a 24-member Interim Leadership Council to steer the party’s affairs and restore stability.
The newly constituted team is headed by veteran politician, Chief Henry Udeh (AjimBest), who assumed office as Chairman representing Ebonyi South.
He is joined by Comrade Innocent Igiri, appointed Secretary from Ebonyi Central, and Engr. Nwede Joshua Igwebuike, who will serve as Organising Secretary from Ebonyi North.
In a significant stride toward gender inclusion, Hajia Rabiu Abubakar of Ebonyi North has emerged as the State Woman Leader.
She will work alongside a formidable team of zonal women leaders including Chief Mrs. Ngozi Nwaleke (Ebonyi North), Mrs. Ngozi Ekuma (Ebonyi South) and Blessing Okoroafor (Ebonyi Central), ensuring broad representation and active female participation across the state.
To strengthen the party’s institutional framework, Barr. Ikey Nwobo has been named State Legal Adviser, while Comrade Louis Nwebonyi assumed the role of Publicity Secretary, positions expected to provide legal grounding and strategic communication expertise as the Labour Party repositions itself.
The inauguration of the interim leadership signaled the end of prolonged uncertainty and a leadership vacuum that had troubled the party’s structure in Ebonyi State.
Reacting to the development, Comrade Splendour Eze Oko, the Labour Party’s 2023 Governorship Candidate and leader of the party in Ebonyi State, expressed confidence in the new leadership.
He affirmed that party stakeholders and grassroots leaders would work collaboratively with the interim team to rebuild unity and consolidate the party’s presence across the state.
Similarly, Dr. Ezeh Emmanuel Ezeh, the 2023 House of Representatives Candidate for Abakaliki/Izzi Federal Constituency, welcomed the new development, describing it as a timely step that reaffirmed the Labour Party’s position as a credible and resilient force in Ebonyi politics.
He reiterated the party’s commitment to remaining the home and voice of the opposition in the state.
