The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reaffirmed its commitment to national unity, true federalism, and economic recovery as Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, marked his 58th birthday with the launch of a book.
The event, which attracted prominent PDP leaders and members from across the country, was described as a unifying platform that transcended political, ethnic, and regional boundaries.
Speaking at the occasion, the First Vice Chairman of the PDP in Ebonyi Central Zone, Hon. Tobias Kelvin Chukwu, said the celebration symbolized the kind of national cohesion Nigeria urgently needs.
He noted that the gathering reflected shared values beyond politics, highlighting a moment he described as deeply symbolic of unity.
“We are here not only to celebrate Governor Makinde but to witness a rare show of national unity, where an Igbo family named a child after him. This speaks volumes about cohesion beyond ethnicity and politics,” Chukwu said.
He commended Governor Makinde for his stabilizing influence within the PDP and his consistent commitment to democratic ideals, especially during challenging periods for the party.
“Governor Makinde’s leadership has been a pillar of strength for the PDP and a beacon of hope for Nigeria’s democracy,” he added.
Expressing optimism about the nation’s future, Chukwu said the PDP remains well-positioned to address Nigeria’s economic and social challenges through purposeful leadership and inclusive governance.
“The country is passing through difficult times, but with the right leadership, the PDP has the capacity to deliver meaningful change and restore hope to Nigerians,” he stated.
He further highlighted ongoing rebuilding efforts within the party under the leadership of the PDP National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Damagum, noting that the focus remains on unity, internal cohesion, and robust stakeholder engagement.
The event was organized by the PDP National Vice Chairman (South East), Chief Ali Odefa, who described it as a reflection of the party’s renewed drive toward national integration and collective progress.
In his remarks, Governor Makinde emphasized the need for true federalism and unity in diversity as fundamental pillars for Nigeria’s development.
He stressed that equitable governance and respect for Nigeria’s plural identity are essential for sustainable national growth.
The Oyo State governor was also praised by the Ebonyi State Governor, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, who was represented at the event by his deputy, Princess Patricia Obila.
The deputy commended Makinde for his effective governance style and contributions to national development.
The celebration, blending reflection and political engagement, reinforced the PDP’s message of unity, democratic resilience, and hope for a better Nigeria.
