The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Ebonyi State Chapter, has reaffirmed its commitment to youth empowerment and economic self-reliance through agriculture as part of its strategic agenda ahead of 2026.
This was disclosed during a New Year courtesy visit by the Ebonyi State NYCN leadership, led by the State Chairman, Comrade Douglas Ochishi, to the Special Assistant to the Governor of Ebonyi State on New Media, Comrade Leo Ekene Oketa, at his Abakaliki residence.
Speaking during the visit, Comrade Ochishi emphasized that the Council is set to roll out major youth-centered programmes, with a flagship event scheduled for March 2026 in Ebonyi North Zone.
According to him, the initiative is designed to reawaken youth consciousness in agriculture, positioning it as a viable and sustainable alternative means of livelihood in the face of rising unemployment and social vices.
He expressed confidence in the performance of Oketa, commending his proactive approach to information dissemination and periodic updates that keep citizens informed on the activities and achievements of the Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru-led administration.
Ochishi urged him to sustain the momentum, especially as the state approaches upcoming Local Government Area and national elections.
In his response, Oketa highlighted key achievements of the current administration, noting that its policies are firmly anchored on the People’s Charter of Needs, with deliberate focus on youth inclusion, economic development, and grassroots participation. He called on the NYCN to intensify its reorientation programmes to channel the energy of Ebonyi youths toward productive ventures, particularly agriculture.
Oketa further praised the Ebonyi State Chapter of NYCN for its organizational capacity and leadership, describing the Council as a critical stakeholder and the umbrella body of all youth organizations in the state.
The NYCN State Chairman was accompanied by Deputy State Chairman, Comrade Uzo Stanley Emeka; Zonal Vice Chairman (North), Comrade Okemini Joshua; State Organizing Secretary, Comrade Chukwuma Ogbonna; Assistant State Secretary, Comrade Samuel Nwobashi; CSO NYCN, Comrade Ogodo Chineme; Abakaliki LGA Coordinator, Comrade To Chukwu Nwalegu; PA to the Chairman, Comrade Emeka Nweze, and other members of the Council.
The visit underscores NYCN Ebonyi State’s resolve to build a productive youth population and contribute meaningfully to state and national development.
