The Senator representing Abia North Senatorial District, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, has declared that Abia State will be won by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
Kalu made the declaration during a New Year visit to the Chairman of the APC in Ebonyi State, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha, at Ekoli Edda in Edda Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
Speaking with journalists after the visit, the former governor of Abia State said he was fully committed to ensuring the victory of the APC in the state during the next general elections. He stressed that his loyalty remains with his party and its candidates.
“Aex Otti is my friend; I don’t discuss politics. I will only vote for my party, APC, and work for its victory in the next general election,” Kalu said.
He further expressed confidence that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would record victory in Abia State in 2027, adding that he would also support any APC governorship candidate in the state.
“Abia will be APC in 2027. I will work for President Tinubu and he is going to win in Abia, and I will work for any governor in APC to win in Abia. Abia will be APC with me. I have brought my heart, I will lay my heart on the field, and I will work for the APC,” the senator stated.
On the issue of insecurity in the country, Kalu called on state governors to take responsibility for securing their states rather than placing the blame solely on President Tinubu.
He argued that governors have a critical role to play in ensuring the safety of lives and property within their jurisdictions.
Recalling his tenure as governor, Kalu claimed that Abia State was the safest state in the country during that period, despite security challenges in other parts of Nigeria.
“When I was governor of Abia State, it was the most secure state in Nigeria. Other places like Warri and Port Harcourt collapsed, but Aba was safe. Nobody was kidnapped in Aba or anywhere in Abia because I was fully committed to security,” he said.
The senator singled out Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, for commendation, describing him as the only governor currently doing well in securing lives and property.
“People are saying President Tinubu should do this and do that to end insecurity. No. Governors should take charge of their states. The Ebonyi State governor is securing his state. Every governor should secure his state and Nigeria will be safe,” Kalu added.
