The Rivers State Government, through the Ministry of Education, has announced that all primary and secondary schools in the state will resume for the second term of the 2025/2026 academic session on Monday, January 5, 2026.
In a public interest announcement issued on Sunday, the Ministry urged parents, guardians, school administrators, and other education stakeholders to disregard rumours and misleading information circulating on social media suggesting a different resumption date.
According to the statement, both public and private schools operating within Rivers State are expected to comply strictly with the government-approved academic calendar and resume academic activities as scheduled.
The Ministry warned that any school found to be in violation of the approved resumption date would face appropriate sanctions, stressing the government’s commitment to maintaining order and standards in the education sector.
The announcement was signed by Dr. Mrs. Azibaolanari Uzoma-Nwogu, Permanent Secretary of the Rivers State Ministry of Education, and dated January 4, 2026.
The Ministry reaffirmed its dedication to ensuring a smooth and effective academic session and called on all stakeholders to cooperate in the interest of students and the education system at large.
