The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State has declared its readiness to reclaim its political dominance ahead of the forthcoming Local Government elections in the state.
The PDP Caretaker Committee Chairman in Ebonyi State, Barr. Onyebuchi Emmanuel Ekuma, made this known on Monday, assuring that the party would field credible and people-oriented candidates across the 13 Local Government Areas of the state.
In a statement, Ekuma said the PDP was determined to return power to the grassroots through transparent and democratic elections, stressing that the party would not compromise on the quality of its candidates.
According to him, the PDP leadership has intensified efforts to reposition the party and ensure victory at the polls, despite what he described as “political odds and intimidation.”
Ekuma also called on the Ebonyi State Independent Electoral Commission (EBSEIC) to strictly adhere to the provisions of the law and the guidelines establishing the commission, warning that the PDP would not tolerate any form of manipulation, injustice, or electoral malpractice during the exercise.
“We are fielding candidates that will sweep all the LGAs. Nobody can stop the will of the people from prevailing at the polls,” Ekuma said.
He further noted that the party has been closely monitoring the activities of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the election and claimed that the PDP is fully aware of what he described as the ruling party’s “usual gimmicks and political manoeuvring.”
“We will show them that the political scheming of the Ebonyi State APC cannot work this time around. Gone are the days when Local Government elections were conducted by appointment of one man or a few individuals, or treated as family heritage,” he stated.
Ekuma expressed confidence that the PDP would emerge victorious, adding that no stone would be left unturned to ensure the success of the party at the polls.
He further advised EBSEIC to conduct the election with the fear of God and in total submission to the will and aspirations of the Ebonyi people.
The PDP chairman also urged party leaders, stakeholders, and members across the state to unite and work collectively to ensure the party’s success in the forthcoming Local Government elections.
“We cannot sit back and watch the precious future of our people diverted and toyed with on the altar of greed and avarice of so-called leaders,” he added.
