The Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC), the apex sociocultural youth organization of Igbo extraction worldwide, has issued a stern warning to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s affiliates, stating that their political ambitions in Igboland are doomed unless the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, is unconditionally released.
Comrade Igboayaka O. Igboayaka, the National President of OYC, delivered the warning during a press briefing with journalists on 29th March 2026.
According to him, Nnamdi Kanu has emerged as the de facto political representative of Ndigbo, wielding influence and credibility unmatched by any contemporary politician in the region, surpassing even the legacy of Zik’s NCNC in the 1960s.
“President Tinubu and his affiliated organizations, including the City Boy Movement and Renew Hope Agenda, will not be able to mobilize Ndigbo to the polls.
Their coordinators and directors in the Southeast lack the capacity to deliver votes,” Comrade Igboayaka emphasized.
He further stated that political activities in Igboland will remain unconventional, with the APC expected to secure less than 5% of the votes if Nnamdi Kanu remains in detention.
“It is an astute political maneuver for Tinubu to facilitate the release of Ndigbo’s leader before the completion of primary elections,” he added.
The OYC President also issued a warning to Igbo politicians who have failed to champion Nnamdi Kanu’s release, declaring that most incumbents ranging from state assembly members to federal lawmakers and governors risk being retired from political office in the 2027 elections during what he described as a “Ballot Revolution in Igboland.”
Igboayaka urged Igbo youths and all lovers of freedom to actively register for Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), participate in the 2027 general elections, and ensure the removal of politicians he described as saboteurs and oppressors.
“This is the best gift that the new generation of Ndigbo can offer to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu,” he said.
The statement maintained with a defiant message that Igbo youths and freedom advocates will exercise their electoral power at polling units and collation centers across Alaigbo, sending a clear signal that political complacency in the region will no longer be tolerated.
