The Commissioner of Police, Ebonyi State Command, Hope Urunwa Okafor, has unveiled a lineup of activities to mark the 2026 National Police Day, reaffirming the Command’s commitment to strengthening ties with the public.
Addressing journalists on Friday in Abakaliki, CP Okafor said the celebration, scheduled in line with the Presidential directive designating April 7 as National Police Day, will feature a series of community-focused programmes aimed at fostering trust and collaboration.
She noted that this year’s theme, “Community Partnership: Building Trust,” reflects the policy direction of the Inspector-General of Police and underscores the need for improved synergy between the Police and the communities they serve.
According to the CP, activities will commence on Monday, March 30, with sanitation exercises across the state capital, alongside a medical outreach organised by the Directorate of Medical Services at the Police Officers’ Mess, Abakaliki. The outreach, she said, will cater to both police personnel and members of the public.
On Tuesday, March 31, the Command will host a walkathon within the Abakaliki metropolis, while similar marches will be held across various Area Commands. The initiative, she explained, is designed to bridge the gap between the Police and the people, while also promoting physical fitness among officers.
The third day of activities, slated for Wednesday, April 1, will focus on public sensitization campaigns against electoral violence, ballot snatching, and related offences. Divisional Police Officers will also engage motorists and other road users on traffic rules and safety practices within their jurisdictions.
Continuing the programme, CP Okafor disclosed that on Thursday, April 2, the Command will present cheques to families of fallen officers in recognition of their sacrifices and to provide support to their loved ones.
She added that the weeklong celebration will culminate on Tuesday, April 7, with a grand ceremonial parade and tactical display at Eagle Square.
The Commissioner called on residents of Ebonyi State to actively participate in the events, describing the celebration as an opportunity to honour the dedication of police officers and deepen community-police relations.
“This is not just a celebration of the Force, but a moment to build stronger partnerships with the people we serve,” she said.
