Stakeholders from Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State have unanimously adopted Honourable Sunday Elechi Inyima as their consensus candidate for the House of Representatives ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The endorsement, which took place at Ezzamgbo Junction in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, during a large political gathering of party leaders, youth groups, women organisations, and stakeholders across all wards, also featured strong backing for top political office holders at both national and state levels.
At the forefront of the endorsements was President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whom the stakeholders commended for ongoing reforms and urged Nigerians to continue supporting as he consolidates on his policies.
The group also unanimously endorsed the Governor of Ebonyi State, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, for a second term, citing his performance in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and human capital development.
Speaking at the event, Barrister Emmanuel Egba, Secretary of the Ebonyi State Internal Revenue Service and member of the Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru Youth Movement Board of Trustees, described the endorsement as a reflection of the people’s will.
“This is a clear case of vox populi, vox dei, meaning the voice of the people is the voice of God. The governor has distinguished himself in service, particularly in human capital development and institutional reforms. The people are satisfied and are calling for continuity,” he said.
Also speaking, the Executive Chairman of Ohaukwu Local Government Area, Hon. Ikechukwu Odono, said the endorsement of Inyima was driven by equity, fairness, and his proven leadership capacity.
“Honourable Sunday Inyima has paid his dues. He has served as chairman and held several leadership positions. We believe he has the experience and capacity to represent Ebonyi/Ohaukwu Federal Constituency effectively at the National Assembly,” Odono stated.
The chairman further noted that the zoning arrangement within the local government informed the decision, stressing that it was time for the area to produce the next representative.
Other stakeholders at the event emphasized that Inyima’s track record in youth empowerment, mentorship, and grassroots development made him the preferred choice.
Mr. Emmanuel Nwankwo, a political aide in the council, described Inyima as a “tested and trusted leader” who has consistently built people and institutions.
“He has demonstrated patience, leadership, and commitment over the years. If elected, he will attract more development to the constituency,” he said.
In addition to Inyima’s endorsement, stakeholders also backed the return of key state legislators, including the Deputy Speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chinedu Onah, and Honourable Esther Agwu, citing their performance and contributions to their constituencies.
Earlier in his remarks, a prominent stakeholder from Igbeke Ward 2, Chief Amechi Igwe, said the decision to endorse Inyima followed wide consultations and careful assessment of his competence.
“We are united in this decision. Ohaukwu understands its political direction, and we are determined to support leaders who can deliver and represent us effectively,” he said.
The stakeholders stressed the need for unity and continuity, noting that their collective endorsement reflects a strategic effort to strengthen Ohaukwu’s political influence ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The event ended with a call on party faithful and the general public to rally behind the endorsed candidates, describing the move as a step towards sustained development and effective representation.
